A must read for anyone interested in 3D rendering.

Trivia About Digital Lighting Books on specific software are important, but I wish there were more books like this one that covered the concepts of 3D rendering without focusing on the mechanics of a specific software package. Depth map shadows, how to fix bias and framing issues, fixing light leaks and artifacts. Every page is wonderfully informative, and sports spectacularly full-color image examples to accomany the concepts a big help when discussing color!!

The book describes professional ways to light and render a scene, and includes many notes about specific software when appropriate. Lighting Environments and Architecture Lighting sets and environments with natural light or artificial lights, by day or night. I wish some more space would have been devoted to certain aspects like developments in rendering beyond Reyes and brute force raytracing.

This book does not lihgting any “tutorials” but each chapter provides a few exercises to inspire further thought. Shaders and Rendering Algorithms Explore the basic components of materials and shaders, different kinds of shaders, and what kinds of looks you can create.
Modern software is used in examples and the chapters are full of new figures from new sample scenes. Cheats and tricks to fake and manipulate shadows and occlusion.
