During the ten years it took to write the first edition of The Wine Bible and the four years it took to write this second edition, I have often asked myself why wine matters.
Macnfil bought the first edition of this incredible tome in The reason behind Champagne’s bubbles. After reading a chapter on the Burgenland, for example, you’ve learned about the region’s sweet wines while feeling like you’re actually there, toasting a glass of Cuvee Kagen with the author.
It has taken this long not because it takes a long time to accumulate the wiine, but because it takes a long time to feel a place–culturally, historically, aesthetically. The word bible gets abused as the noun for encompassing information books but this book deserves the title.
