Finnikin is snarky, strong, smart, but also a bit hot-headed at times. Thankfully this story unfurled in a more or less straightforward almost heist-like manner. I hated Evanjalin I should have known from the spelling of her named.

So much WIN I can hardly stand it! Just read the book! I don’t even have strong enough opinions about marrchetta book to dislike it! Alas, no walking into the sunset was meant for us. I remember the first time I heard about Melina Marchetta and her special fragrance of awesome she regularly emits whenever she publishes a novel.

You mean there’s supposed to be romance in here? And while everyone gives the books of this author about 4 or 5 stars, I force myself to give them 2. melia

The men in this story spend a lot melins time beating each other up in a companionable sort of way, because clearly the only way men know how to show affection is to punch each other. She actually creates chemistry between two characters that grows at a realistic pace. Melina Marchetta was born in Sydney Australia. Fairly generic-seeming fantasy, mostly male characters, lots of Things Happening, really badly written dialogue, and very annoying gender stuff.

Overall, I wasn’t super blown away but I still loved it. mwrchetta

Whenever I write a rocq of a Melina Marchetta book, I risk sounding like the same old broken record The main part of the book picks up ten years after the prologue. And almost worse, his father does the same thing, which doesn’t help me respect the King’s Guard either. And then, there is a prophecy of heir who will return to break melins curse.

Such is what happens with such fact-driven writing. I would be lying if I said I loved this.

Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Who are we without our words? I feel confident enough to say that she is one of the very best modern writers in any genre. I would recommend the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind if you are looking for an epic fantasy. Additionally, the pace was quite slow; and the story is told from multiple POVs -and I just felt like when I was finally connecting to Finnikin or Evanjalin.

Five chapters in I knew what the big plot twist would be. To view it, click here. I actually loved that plot twist.

Long discussions about being able doca ‘walk the sleep’ only during menses or while bleeding for another reason? Maybe it’s simply because I had read it before, and as I made my way through it a second time I started to remember things and there wasn’t that initial reaction to be surprised or delighted by.

Or sell you to the slave traders of Sorel,” Finnikin said with a shrug. I refuse to return it to the library because i kept saying I am going to finish this book. You lied to us! Details Collect From N Copy: To me, it is not only lifelessmarcbetta also sluggish and inexpressive ; you know the feeling of mdlina words about nothing? Seriously considering never reading fantasy again after this. I’m having a hard time pinning down what I didn’t like about this story.

Daughters being killed so they wouldn’t be raped. Brilliantly written I highly recommend this fantasy to any Lord of the Rings fan. There is an attempted rape, but I believe the other answer that says “it is not graphic” is very true. There is not enough feeling of a lot being at stake, it lacks danger and excitement. I stopped a little over halfway through. Really, I’m in awe of this author for her ability to create characters so real.
