The whole story of the youngsters and Andre illustrate that the attempts to establish a world of fmmaus against the chaotic, uncertain world, that these attempts are futile, and that ultimately the mystery of the world and of life both crushes and entices us. Emmaus is the first novel by Alessandro Baricco brought to this country by McSweeney’s, although it is far from his debut. You want what is forbidden, and lots of it, even as you condemn it. And yes, I did like it very much. Baricco has written four excellent novels. Maar ook veroorlooft Baricco zich wat meer filosofische uitweidingen, die weliswaar op hun plaats zijn, maar die je toch echt even aandachtig moet doorlezen.
