I could go on for a while but I tried to find an end, and here it is, also because I am falling asleep right now it takes so damn long to write As to you suggestions to create your own post-effects. CryTek has seen what I have seenno destructible dynamic worlds without throwing anything prebaked over board. After all, even if you are not shipping a game with CE3, cryengune will learn so much about AAA game development, and you will probably be shocked how much features Unity really lacks and never come back.

No chance with Unity! After all, you could also run Crysis 2 on an iPhone, by using the DirectX 11 ref device xD well of course you need to stretch this a little bit, technically it wouldn’t work so easy.

What could be worse than 3k USD of upfront payment? OK CryEngine – AAA high end games that generally take big teams of tens to tutorila of very talented people many months to create the content to make a great game. There is no way I am turned around on this subject and that is not the point here.

I try it out, but it just flat out refuse to load it for me. Every fancy post processing effect cryengine has FXAA, Global Illumination, SSAOthese are all from white papers deutshc on them that they implemented, it’s technology open to everyone. Like Voxelform, which comes similarly in a AAA incarnation in the CE3 Sandbox editor and allows for cave and overhang creation and much more.

This isn’t to dismiss your post, as it was a very good summation of the current state of the engines, and I do agree with it. Forget it with Unity!

But I don’t think cryengine will keep this edge over Unity for more than a few years. I wont never need it for work, but it will be nice to check out. So for me it’s not a matter of what engine can do what more fancily, it’s a matter of, what engine do I like working with better? So of no use for me. It’s not that ceyengine.

In the end, it is a business decision. What I have learned is “No good look without excellent post-effects” which means no good look at all in Unity always compared to CE3. If it becomes a thread solely about techniques to use CE then I might close it out or move it to the “External Tools” section though ;- And just my 2 cents skimming this thread The ease of turning around and delivering a garbage product into the App Store has made customers exceedingly weary of trusting content and making blind purchases.

Unity is a more general engine that is good at making any sort of game if you have the talent and creativity. No one is holding you back there. Asset creation seems too expensive, not to mention competition and lack of an “store” customers usually are not so easy to find in PC.

I argue exactly the opposite. UT is also a rather small company by what I gather by this page: It can crash due to lack of hardware support. May 13, Posts: But these two things would be required to implement the same GI algorithm that cryengine has, and it makes me a bit sad.

What is builtin into CE3, you have to code yourself in Unity, again So long as mobile is constantly improved also CE3 was built from the ground up since to be highly moddable and hell it is! CE3 has them all builtin the fancy stuff soon and they excel in every respect.

So maybe the “need” to use CE4 and UDK4 will be reduced by then, because the visual quality of Unity 5 will be high enough to feel good. They have enough money and they have enough support to sustain themselves for the time needed to get to that level, so I fully believe they will. For now I have omitted all that stuff and this was a good decision.

And I think now that they have the web and mobile market very secure, they are focusing towards consoles and triple a quality.

So much for an AAA engine. I am da bawss. I’d rather trust CE3 to be honest Of course, the visual aspects are not worth mentioning, because these two engines do not and cannot even compete in the market. Jun 15, Posts: The question is what you need of course.

You just need to weight facts if the game that you are making really needs that much power.

You have the power in Unity to make any image effect you can think up given the talent and imagination. A lot code can be reused in CE3 since I focused on gameplay and not so much on rendering since I had the hope that Unity would catch tutoriial until I am done but now I doubt it; or let’s say I can’t wait anymore. Its just that CE3 was release some weeks ago, so you can’t expect much in that area.

Yes it provides a network layer but that is pretty much it. At least that was the CE3 terrain tutorial I have been watching!

You just can’t work with that. CE3 only runs on recent hardware, but the fact that it runs on these crappy consoles already proves that it can’t be that bad. Nov 12, Posts:
