We are experiencing the same here with Christianity. Although it contained too much information, it was to support pontiny thesis, whereas Collapse just started to feel repetive, each chapter proving the same thing over and over. I think the most interesting pontiing of this book was just learning that there never was any sort of golden age in history where there was no pollution, environmental damage being wrought by humans, corruption in huge corporations, etc.
