Balckout really hoping for a redemption from the sequel coming out this September. It was a gentle and then building connection between the two, because when it starts, Audrey is actually with someone else. I’m not going to give this the benefit of a great and well thought out review stating all the problems as this novel didn’t even give me an enjoyable read to begin with.

The characters were flat and lifeless, with no interesting personalities, and rkbison motives didn’t line up with their actions in the slightest. This book was gripping not just for the different take on superpowers super smell, and the implications thereof, is not something that I’ve ever ponderedbut also because it was so grounded in realism. They’re destroying their own homeland and don’t seem to care about innocent lives.

There’s a little violence, but nothings that’s described in a gory sort of way. There were so many opportunities for Wells to shine nlackout writing this book, so many possible twists and turns it could have taken, but that never happened. The characters were boring, and the I can’t believe the author who wrote Variant and Feedback wrote this.

I think that her and Jack are what kept my interest. Overall, Blackout is a new, shining gem within the post-apocalyptic genre that shouldn’t be missed.
