He’s not for everyone and self-serving but has his selfless moments and genuinely wants to find a woman who loves him. I was pleasantly surprised. A woman with three maids, each with such decided opinions, can hardly bemoan her lack of guidance!
If only Elijah visited her at this time in the afternoon…but he never did. EJ has a witty, amusing style and the book proceeds at a steady pace with no noticable lull. I had already grown to care for the characters because they had been in the previous books.
For many readers, it may push the boundaries of comfort zones the entire story, from the beginning makes it clear it willbut I loved it.
Her “double life” is a source of fascination to the media and her readers. Still they kept to separate bedchambers.

Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon. Finally there’s a book about Jemma and Elijah. I suppose I must needs admit Corbin, at least.
But it’s present day and Jemma still seems clearly smitten and in love with her husband. Not to mention that they never even speak of the fact that he told Jemma that he loved the woman.
She is not your typical Avon historical author. They were flawed, which I liked. The minw between Jemma and Elijah was touching, although they had been fighting on so many books in this series. It was just what I wanted for Jemma. This is a kind of odd review. WTF is he going to do with so many kids?
I have enjoyed many other books by James, but this one was mercifully slow-paced and dull. How else to explain the, er, climax of the book being dragged out by a naked chess scene? So I have to be more careful selecting books from Eloisa James.
Jemma was the most clever English Duchess in Paris. Jemma laughs at Elijah’s cool eyes and icy heart—but to her secret shock, she doesn’t share his feelings. Do not read as a stand alone. And I do love Elijah so much! Aside from that, Jzmes really feel like EJ is a genius for being able to capture the 18th century the way she did. If only Villiers were here.

This book answered my questions rather well. The story had some really touching scenes. The duke’s illness, their past, the illness, the past, the illness
